Drug treatment courts have been touted by a former prosecutor as the most effective process to changing behaviour and stopping recidivism. Dave Wallace, who was a prosecutor in Washington DC, said it was a fantastic idea to introduce such courts here because of their all-encompassing approach to the drug user as they held them accountable, yet gave the support and treatment to change their lifestyle. He was speaking at the National Library Service’s headquarters, Independence Square, The City, yesterday at the closing ceremony of the Drug Awareness Month exhibition held under the theme: Prevention Is Key. Wallace, who travels and speaks about traffic safety, told students of Windsor and Unique High Schools that after being involved in criminal law and criminal prosecution for more than 30 years in the United States, he had seen individuals who were drinking too much and could not control themselves anymore become law-abiding citizens. Missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints also did a puppet show on the effects of drugs on the body.
